What it is

What is dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a gentle exfoliating facial. A sterile blade is used to remove dead skin cells and fine facial hair, often called peach fuzz, from the surface of the skin.

What people notice first is how soft their skin feels. Make-up goes on more smoothly, skincare absorbs better and the complexion looks brighter straight away.

It’s a treatment for surface texture rather than tightening or deeper lines, and there’s little to no downtime.

On its own or combined

Dermaplaning on its own or alongside other treatments

Dermaplaning works well as a stand-alone facial before an event, and as preparation for other skin treatments, because it clears the surface so products can work better.

Whether it suits you on its own or as part of a wider plan is decided at your consultation.

Your appointment

What happens at your dermaplaning facial

Your skin is cleansed and dried, then held taut while the blade is drawn across it in short, gentle strokes. It’s painless and no numbing is needed.

Your skin is finished with soothing products and sun protection. Mild redness can occur for a few hours afterwards.

Aftercare

Dermaplaning aftercare

Avoid exfoliants and strong active ingredients for a couple of days, and use a high-factor SPF, because freshly exfoliated skin is more sensitive to the sun.

For best results, dermaplaning is usually repeated every four to six weeks. You’ll leave with written aftercare instructions and a way to contact the clinic if anything worries you.

Questions

Dermaplaning questions

Will my facial hair grow back thicker?

No. Fine facial hair grows back at the same rate and texture as before. Dermaplaning doesn’t make it thicker or darker.

Does dermaplaning hurt?

No. It’s painless and no numbing is needed.

How often should I have dermaplaning?

Every four to six weeks is usual, in line with your skin’s natural renewal cycle.

How much does dermaplaning cost?

The price depends on whether it’s a stand-alone facial or part of a wider plan, so it’s confirmed at your consultation once Lara has assessed your skin.

You’ll have the full cost in writing before you decide anything, and there’s no obligation to go ahead.

Is dermaplaning suitable for everyone?

Not always. It isn’t suitable over active breakouts or broken skin, and the clinic doesn’t treat anyone under eighteen.

Lara will check your skin before recommending anything.
